Rabbit internal Medicine: Must have for the rabbit Breeder

I recently purchased this book after a mysterious death of a weanling doe. This book is very informative and covers all areas of Rabbit disease and treatment. It was published in The United Kingdom so Americans will have to translate dosages from metric to U.S. measurements. I have found Section 4 which deals with infectious diseases especially helpful. It saved me a few trips to the vet just to get medication for a snuffles outbreak. From the data detailed in the book I was able to administer the proper amount of oxytetracycline to deal with the situation in the infected brood does. The book also includes fairly up to date research data on previously considered exotic conditions such as Encephalitozoon Cuniculi. Many medical books in the past exclusively used data compiled from laboratory animals. The publishers of "Rabbit Internal Medicine" have wisely chosen to include data collected from house rabbit associations as well as private breeders, and lab animals in an attempt to cover a much more realistic demographic. Many conditions such as the above mentioned E. Cuniculi rarely occur in lab animals, but are becoming known to be quite common in pet and show rabbits. This is a great book and a must have for the serious rabbit breeder or medical professional

This is not a book for a lay person with zero experience in medicine or rabbits - but it is a fantastic book for anyone seriously into rabbit medicine. Very thorough, detailed, and up to date. It is from the UK, so people across the pond will have to think about doses a second longer.

This book has been absolutely perfect! It goes right along with what we are doing in our class and the pictures are amazing! Being able to see where everything is and then coloring each muscle/vein/artery/nerve to distinguish it is so helpful. Also, the activities at the end of the sections are soo good!

This book has great illustrations and interactive lessons to help you learn. The CD-ROM is excellent as well. It has actual cadaver pictures and videos that provide a real perspective to learn from.

Used but good quality

Item just as expected. The cover is slightly dirty and the pages are somewhat yellowed. I was very surprised and excited when I flipped through the book and saw that there was no writing on the pages! I took a chance and bought this used rather than brand new and my chance paid off! I saved $40 by buying this used and am so happy I did.

About the Author

Giuseppe Aureliano Fabrizio, Ph.D., is with the Defence Science and Technology Organization (DSTO) in Australia, where he is responsible for the EW and adaptive signal processing section of the high frequency radar branch. Dr Fabrizio is the scientific lead for the development, testing, and implementation of robust signal-processing techniques to enhance the operational performance of modern OTH radar systems. Dr. Fabrizio is a co-recipient of the prestigious Barry Carlton Award for the best paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems (AES) in a calendar year on two occasions―2003 and 2004. In 2007, he received the coveted DSTO Science Excellence award in recognition of his contributions to adaptive signal processing for Australia’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN). Dr. Fabrizio has delivered OTH radar tutorials at the 2008 IEEE Radar Conference in Rome, at the 2010 IEEE International Radar Conference in Washington DC, and at the 2013 Radar Conference in Ottawa. He is an Australian representative on the IEEE International Radar Systems Panel, and is currently serving as VP of Education on the AES Board of Governors. Dr. Fabrizio was selected as the recipient of the distinguished IEEE Fred Nathanson Memorial Radar Award in 2011 for his contributions to OTH radar and radar signal processing.

After working with HF over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) for 40 years (1966-2006), it is my great pleasure that I was asked to review the comprehensive HF over-the-horizon radar book recently published by Dr. Giuseppe (Joe) Fabrizio from Australia. This indeed is an amazing volume. Through my interaction with Dr. Fabrizio during the drafting of his text, I must conclude that the author is a highly experienced and dedicated OTHR researcher and practitioner. I wholeheartedly agree with the previous Amazon reviews, particularly those from Scott C., Joseph Thomason, and Chris Baker.

Indeed, I have been pleased to work closely with Australian HF radar enthusiasts since 1966, beginning at Stanford, then during subsequent technical exchange meetings. As discussed in the book, the WARF OTHR testbed was developed by Stanford in California during 1967 and demonstrated for the first time an ability for high spatial resolution with aircraft and ship detection. The WARF was transferred to SRI in 1970, after which time the greatest progress in OTHR was made, both in the U.S. and Australia. In particular, the U.S. Navy Relocatable OTHR (ROTHR) implemented four separate radar sites, patterned largely after WARF, three of which remain operable. The U.S., particularly SRI WARF, was pleased to transfer similar technology to Australia in the mid 1970’s, after which Australia developed the well-engineered Jindalee and multiple JORN OTHR systems. The WARF was decommissioned in 2006, following a joint experiment with visiting Australian engineers and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, who operated advanced digital HF receivers at mid CONUS field sites. With the HF high resolution technology firmly established, the advanced U.S. and Australian OTHR systems continue to flourish.

Dr. Fabrizio has covered nearly every important research and development topic in OTHR that I am aware of. His mathematics are detailed enough to enable the reader to understand, apply, and push onward. His radar display examples are convincing proof that this technology actually works, in spite of highly variable (but nominally predictable and adaptable) ionospheric propagation conditions. I am especially impressed by the engineering emphasis on reducing low-frequency noise in the HF transmitters (which can cover up weak targets), and the excellent and timely digital technology developments in receivers and FMCW signal generators. The descriptions of adaptive signal processing are superb. Chapter 5, Surface-Wave Radar, is a very important addition, considering that this HF radar mode does not depend on variable ionospheric conditions, except insofar as near vertical incidence skywave (NVIS) clutter may add signal processing confusion (which can be mitigated through adept radar frequency management). The Bibliography and index are more extensive than I have every seen in an OTHR publication, which should give the student ample opportunity to explore any topic of interest. In that regard, I would suggest that the publisher recommend this book as a college text, or at least as required reference material for any course on HF radio propagation applications, most specifically OTHR.

Finally - a comprehensive state-of-the-art text for those of us interested in the long wavelengths at the left-hand side of the spectrum - and it's a great one! This 900-plus-page book is exclusively devoted to Over-the-Horizon Radar (OTHR) operating in the High Frequency (HF) band. By reflecting signals off the ionosphere, these phased-array radars are capable of surveilling very wide areas and detecting targets at very long ranges beyond the visual horizon.

Somehow, at the same time, this book is both tutorial yet provides the depth necessary to benefit practicing scientists and engineers desiring to contribute to this expanding field. It fully describes the fundamental principles of operation at a level easily understandable for those new to this field, yet is packed with detailed descriptions of the relevant and state-of-the-art signal processing models and techniques. The book is also packed with real-data examples and experimental results that serve to demonstrate the real-world application of the signal processing techniques as they are introduced. In addition, the text contains a comprehensive bibliography close to 50 pages in length.

While this book is a necessity for anyone interested or working in OTH radar, it will also be a useful addition to the library of any practicing radar engineer working at any frequency.

This 921 page book is the bible and reference book for Over Horizon Radar (OTH). It is extremely well written. It can be used by both the beginner and the practitioner in the field. It is written by a person who has hands on field experience and who as well has a deep knowledge of the theory re OTH systems, waveform design, signal processing and propagation. It is very well illustrated with clear figures which can be downloaded. Covers both sky and ground wave OTH in depth. Gives radar equation for both. Extensive real world system measurements and theoretical analysis. Covers modern signal processing techniques and systems such as adaptive beamforming, space-time-adaptive-processing (STAP), Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT), Generalized LRT (GLRT), Generalized Estimation of Multipath Signals (GEMS) algorithm as applied to blind waveform estimation, MUSIC. This is the best TOEFL book I have ever studied or taught. I have been a teacher of TOEFL preparation courses since 2008, and I've tried most TOEFL books, and this one is the best. It is very simple to understand and to follow, very clear instruction and practical examples. I took the TOEFL exams two times so far, and I scored 111 and 112. My advice is BUY THIS BOOK, don't hesitate and please do not be fooled by the reviews of the other books, I have tried them, and they are more theoretical than practical. An excellent biography...

I bought this book after seeing the movie, "I Saw the Light", with Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams. (The movie has received mixed reviews, but I thought it was quite good.) Colin Escott's biography of Williams - formerly titled "Hank Williams: The Biography" - is one of the best biographies I've read. From the beginning of his life to the end, Hiram "Hank" Williams was a walking country-western song. Beset by alcoholic and pill addictions that may have stemmed from physical pains, Williams flashed onto the musical scene before his life ended in the back seat of a car, while being driven to a concert in Canton, Ohio, a mere 4 years after gaining prominence.

Country music historian Colin Escott seems to understand Hank Williams and his times and his songs and his influence on both those times and those songs. Born in 1923 in a southern Alabama town to a family that seemed to have the vicissitudes of life down pat. The father, Lon, was a drifter, and the mother, Lillie, saw musical promise in her young son. He grew up in small towns, eventually ending up in Montgomery, where he began working with other singers with a purpose of singing at the "Grand Ol' Opry". He wrote songs - never as successful for other singers as they were for himself - and began a rise through the Shreveport, LA radio barn shows. He married a firecracker - Audrey - who battled his mother for managing Hank's career and their marriage was combustible from the start. Depressing drinking and fighting and philandering on both sides of the marriage. Divorce...then musical fame, beginning in 1949. But the good times - and the bad marriage - didn't last through the haze of liquor and prescription pills. Another marriage followed and so did what seemed to be an untimely death...but probably wasn't. The man was just "wore out" in both body and spirit by his 29th year.

Escott's biography is a straight forward one. He's kind and sympathetic to his subject and understands America of the times (though he does refer to a politician as "standing" for office, rather than "running" for office.) and how country music was never as "pure" after Williams' death. Would Hank Williams be as much of a success today? Escott reminds the reader of how "packaged", "molded" and "handled" today's music makers are. Williams doesn't seem to have been the type that took to handling. He was his own man and his music proved his individuality.

Very Well Written, Incredibly Depressing

This is a difficult review to write. The book itself is well researched and well written. Hank is an incredible song writer and this biography chronicles his life very well. As someone who has been a long time fan, for at least 40 years, it was depressing. Of course I knew about his drinking, his domineering mother and volatile wife Audrey but I had idea just how deplorable some of his acts were. This family makes the Kardashian clan look like saints. Most of the main characters in his life seem sociopathic. I have of empathy for him, I know he was in a great deal of pain and some of his acts may have been due to the times in which he lived. I honestly think I would have preferred to be left in the dark about how he really lived.

It would be hard to imagine a better rendering of the life of arguably country music's most influential artist than Colin Escott's exhaustive and beautifully written biography of Hank Williams. This book is brilliantly well-researched, moves like a house afire, and gives the reader a compelling perspective on the life, times, and demons of a man who, in the space of only six years, compiled one of the most essential discographies in all of American song. Escott wisely never attempts to definitively pinpoint a cause for Williams' demons; by anatomizing them in detail, the book does enough to illustrate how the artist was ruled and ultimately destroyed by compulsions and sadnesses beyond his control. The book is also a clear-eyed yet never overly nasty depiction of the battles that have been waged in the aftermath of Williams' death over the rights to his catalog and legacy; it's heartbreaking to see how people who were never there enough for Hank when he was alive have become literally invested in his earnings after his death. Nobody comes off as an angel here, and some people are downright hateful in their willingness to turn every last earthly scrap of Hank's life into gold. (Hank Williams Jr. arguably comes off better than anyone else, though it's odd that the book never even mentions Hank 3, who has carved his own unique outlaw-country niche, one that I honestly think Hank himself would approve of.)

This book was the basis for the new biopic starring Tom Hiddleston as Hank. The film smoothly condenses the narrative presented here, even as it somewhat dilutes the raw, often tragic events depicted here. The film is recommended. The book is damn near essential.

About the Author
Sarah Carson was born and raised in Michigan but now lives in Chicago where she works at a church. Her poetry and short stories have appeared in Cream City Review, Columbia Poetry Review, Diagram, Guernica, and the Nashville Review, among others. You just can't BEAT this book!

Sarah and Shawn Carson are the real deal. In a field that is fraught with less than creditable people, these two are smart, creative teachers/authors who are superb in breaking information down and presenting it to the conscious and unconscious mind. This coaching system is versatile and powerful and can be used on clients as well as yourself. I have learned to use this pattern on myself so that I can quickly change a negative state into a positive state so that I am able to be the best version of myself. I highly recommend this book to any coach who wants to learn a a new technique to use with clients or become better versed in this coaching system if you already know it, as well as to the individual who wants to learn a strategy to help them to make positive changes in their life. This is a great, well-written book. Enjoy and thrive!

The Bible of Griswold collecting

Being a collector, dealer and trader with my own online cast iron business..., this the what most collectors call the Bible of Griswold or the BLUE book. It is well laid out with great pictures. The author, Dave Smith, is friendly and easy to approach with questions and is very knowledgeable. It is the first book I go to.

Great pictures and lots of neat little notes. A sample of the pricing of any and all. Includes a short history of most of the companies that have made cast iron cookware, and other items in cast iron.

Since the first edition of West and Wood's Introduction to Foodservice (then titled Foodservice in Institutions) was published in 1938, the authors have been committed to presenting the basic principles of foodservice management, which can be applied to all types of foodservice organizations. This ninth edition is no exception in giving comprehensive coverage of all aspects of foodservice management.

Earlier editions, however, reflected the distinct difference that existed between commercial, or profit-seeking, organizations and noncommercial, or institutional, not-for-profit foodservice operations. Special emphasis was given to institutional foodservices: schools and colleges, hospitals and healthcare facilities, and in-plant or industrial foodservices.

In recent years, a philosophical change has taken place—first gradually, then dramatically—in the management of many not-for-profit institutional foodservices. With rising healthcare costs of recent years and the pressures of healthcare reform, for example, hospitals have become more financially competitive in order to succeed and remain in business. Schools too, are under pressure to implement self-sustaining Child Nutrition Programs by offering revenue generating options such as à la carte lines and catering services and dinners. Today, most foodservices strive for some margin of profit, and make less of a distinction between the two types of foodservice. In response to these changes, the title of this book was changed with the seventh edition to Introduction to Foodservice.

While the focus is on basic principles, this edition also reflects the impact of current social, economic, technological and political factors on foodservice operations. Examples and illustrations reflect both noncommercial and commercial applications. FEATURES

First, the technical operation of a foodservice is discussed so that students will understand what is to be managed, and then the presentation of management techniques follows.

Introduction to Foodservice is divided into four major parts. Part 1, "Foodservice Organizations," provides an overview. Chapter 1 gives a chronological review of the history of foodservice organizations, while Chapter 2 describes types of current foodservice operations.

Part 2, "Quantity Food Production and Service," includes Chapters 3 through 8. This part begins with a chapter on food safety and is followed by a function-by-function description of a foodservice operation. These functions include menu planning, purchasing, production, and service. Each chapter includes factors that influence the management of that operational function.

Part 3, "Facilities," is a four-chapter unit that focuses on the maintenance and design of the operational facilities. The unit begins with a chapter on sanitation and cleaning. Guidance is also offered on how to plan, design, and maintain a foodservice operation.

Part 4, "Management," provides the reader with the basic knowledge to manage the operational functions of a foodservice. Chapter 13 covers the design and management of organizations. It is followed by a comprehensive chapter on human resource management. The unit concludes with chapters on professional qualities such as administrative leadership and skills including work improvement, financial management, and marketing.
